Elaine’s comments: Whether you are a corporate client in St. John’s for a few days business, or a tourist who would like more flexibility that a traditional room offers, the Signal Hill Suite is a superb choice. Lots of work space; sweet dining area; spacious sitting area off the bedroom; but the Signal Hill is also more than that – light the fireplace, pull around the bed canopy, and you have one of the most romantic suites in St. John’s.

Although we are classified as a St. John’s bed and breakfast, Leaside is very much like those smaller, downtown, luxury inns found in many cities! We are close to downtown St. John’s, with plenty of parking, and excellent services.

Why the name? Signal Hill is one of St. John’s major tourist attractions. It is home to the Cabot Tower – commemorating Marconi’s 1901 wireless work; home to the St. John’s Geo Centre, a museum celebrating the diverse beginnings of “The Rock” (as we affectionately call the island part of the province; and home to a national information centre. It is also a most excellent place to spot icebergs and whales!

The Signal Hill was creatively built by combining a couple of storage areas, while at the same time lowering the floor of one large unused room into a relatively unused carport. When you stay there you will see we had to keep the frame of the floor for support, hence the ledge which runs the perimeter of the sitting and bedroom areas.

It has a full kitchen, sweet dining island with exposed brick, a fireplace, a canopied bed, access to the large side deck, and …double Jacuzzi tub. Romance and functionality – all in one St. John’s suite!
