Elaine’s comments: Although classified as a St. John’s bed and breakfast – B&B, Leaside is more like a charming boutique inn or small hotel. Located minutes from the convention centre and Mile One in downtown St. John’s, Leaside offers clients a choice of luxury rooms, suites or apartments. The styles vary – some are boutique or hip, others are more traditional with antiques, canopied beds, etc. We like to think they are all gorgeous – our clients tell us, in our guest books, in our lobby register, and on Trip Advisor, that we are the best in St. John’s, Newfoundland!. Leaside likes the idea of naming the suites in the Manor. It helps give them personalities and it helps you identify with each individual room or suite. This suite is named for the illustrious merchant family from whom I purchased the property in 1995. Read more in the "History of Leaside". The pictures of this suite should speak for themselves. The Parker is a stunning, romantic, treat. I will never forget the first client who stayed in it when it was first renovated. It was their wedding night. I had checked them in and had returned a few minutes later with an ice bucket – she was sitting in the armchair in her wedding dress, and mused “Elaine, I feel like a princess in this room!”. Great feedback for a lovely room. Traditional, romantic, over-the-top, and just plain comfortable. I have one straight male client who tells me he loves staying in this one – keeps him in touch with his feminine side! As an aside
- an acquaintance of "the Manor", who was one of those
who took that fabulous submersible run two miles down to the Titanic
(that's another excellent Leaside story), told me that the inlaid
wood floor in this suite, and in the lobby, was very much like the
inlaid floors on that famous, ill-fated ship.
