Elaine’s comments: Located just off Water Street in downtown St. John’s, Leaside Manor is more inn-like than traditional B&B. It is very much like those smaller, downtown, luxury hotels found in many cities! We just try to make it even sweeter! You can choose from traditional or boutique style rooms, suites or apartments. All within a 20 minute walk to downtown St. John’s Convention Centre and harbour. As well, we really like the idea of naming our suites. It helps us give them personalities and it helps you identify with our facilities.

The houses which sit at the entrance to the St. John’s harbour used to gleam brightly with the paint that the fishermen in that community had left over from their boats – reds, greens, yellows, whites, and so on. They resembled jelly beans scattered along the base of Signal Hill. Hence, to this day, we call that row of St. John’s houses the Jelly Bean Row.

A couple of decades ago, the advent of aluminium and vinyl siding – too often in white – made more monotone the face of that famous façade. It is, however, slowly coming back, and I welcome the day that no one paints their home white in that part of St. John’s.

This room is on the main floor of the house. Large, and quite charming, it is very traditional in its décor. It has a very spacious shower and private washroom.
