and Breakfast in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. She is well-traveled,
and knows the importance of having good, basic travel information
before you start.
If
you are contemplating any travel to"The Rock", as
we affectionately call the island part of the province, you
really need to talk to someone local first! That's one
of our tasks in operating Leaside Manor. Don’t hesitate
to bring us your travel questions. Here is a snapshot
of some of our fervent suggestions!
First and foremost, check out the tourism website for Newfoundland
and Labrador - these amazing
videos will give you a small taste of what you can expect
when you come to visit! Second, use the Travel Guide (Order
Here). Newfoundland and Labrador has one of the best-written
guides in the country! And it's free!
Never
assume you will be able to rent a vehicle in St. John's- especially
in high season. Call ahead, book your car; look for mileage
- and oftentimes unlimited mileage is a perk that comes more
easily with a corporate card and client relationship. If you
are arriving late at night -- inquire as to whether they will
drop the car off to you in the morning...save trying to find
your way around late at night. Do inquire as to any drop off
fees.
Don't
forget that you can arrive in one end of Newfoundland or Labrador
and exit the other. Lots of our clients fly to St. John's,
visit it and the east coast, then fly west and visit that
area. Rental cars are available in each location, and if time
is a constraint it might make the most sense and allow you
to see more of the island.
Don't
believe what anyone says about our weather - it is always
lovely - except when it sometimes snows in May, or is 10 degrees
C in December....or when it is blowing a "living gale"
as we like to say! Check the Weather Network for trends.
How
to get here -- look to Air Canada, Westjet, Continental Airlines,
Air Labrador, Provincial Airlines. Air St. Pierre also has
regular flights into St. John's as well from the French Islands
offshore.
By ferry -- Marine Atlantic runs from
North Sydney into Argentia on the east coast and Port-aux-Basques
on the west coast.
