Elaine’s comments: Minutes from downtown St. John’s, our rooms, suites and apartments offer a combination of traditional and contemporary furnishings and décor. I call this one the Port Royal. My family is one of those Placentia Bay families who lived through the imposed Resettlement of the Joseph Smallwood Government (1950s and 60s) – where families “sailed ‘cross the bay with their houses in tow”! Port Royal was one such community. It is where my Dad was born, where he met my Mom, a schoolteacher in a one room school. It also where those with Hann in their blood return every summer to holiday. Sweet story and an equally sweet suite! Located on the main floor, the Port Royal is one of our more traditional suites; spacious, romantic and practical with a peat log fireplace at one end. Gleaming hardwood floors, large, lead-lined, bay windows and a canopied bed make this one of our more popular rooms. The bathroom area is fabulous with a raised, double Jacuzzi, loads of mirrors, and a customized vanity. But the Port Royal can go a step further. If you are handicapped, or in any way need a main floor wheelchair accessible washroom, the Port Royal is the room for you. It actually has two full bathrooms – the inside one is fully wheelchair accessible. And I know there is no nicer wheelchair accommodable suite in St. John’s – maybe in eastern Canada! We will need to know if you need the wheelchair bathroom.
